Channel Team

To coincide with World diabetes day which is on the 14th November each year, ten year 7 pupils from St. Michael’s Middle School, Colehill, England are attempting to swim the equivalent length of the English Channel in their school swimming pool.

Each of the girls will swim 202 lengths of the pool so collectively they will cover the 21 mile distance from Dover to Calais.

The idea was conceived by Kirsty who has had to deal with Type 1 diabetes since the age of 7, and her 9 friends Mia,  Bria, Hari, Martha, Georgia, Rianne, Charlie, Katie and Anna were only too pleased to join in the challenge.

The school was delighted to allow the use of the pool and the lifeguards Chris, Alice and another friend and fellow pupil Verity chipped in with their time to help.

The girls will be completing the challenge on 12th November and have all arranged sponsorship with the proceeds going to JDRF.
